Floating roots

Chloe Brenta’s exhibition “Floating Roots - a message in a bottle” took place at the Hafenmuseum from 1 October to 10 November 2025. The multimedia project reflects on belonging, slowness, and human connection in an age shaped by constant movement. Created over the course of a two-year sailing journey, the exhibition presents seven ballpoint-pen portraits drawn on nautical charts collected around the world, each depicting a sailor whose story offers a distinct perspective on what it means to belong.
Accompanied by a documentary of Brenta’s Atlantic crossing, the work invites viewers into a contemplative space that contrasts modern acceleration with the patience and resilience of life at sea. Interactive elements—such as take-home quotes enclosed in small glass bottles—extended this intimate dialogue between artwork and audience.
